Offshore Powerboat Races July 28-29, 2007 The St Clair Fire Department welcomed all race fans to our town for a great weekend of family fun and powerboat racing. We hope that all had a great, SAFE and wonderful weekend.
What a weekend for the Department. Over 60 Med-Rescue Personnel represented by over 21 agencies assisted in the St Clair River Classic Offshore Powerboat races. With The Carnival, Static Displays, Concerts and Boat races the Department ran on over 20 emergency calls over the weekend. We assisted with 10 Rescue Boats on the Water and staffed a Medical Tent on the boardwalk Saturday and Sunday. On the Fire side we had on standby 2 rescue trucks and 2 Fire engines. We had our work cut out for us with over 30,000 people in attendance, one of the largest events the City has seen.

June 1, 2007 - Thanks to the generosity of the citizens and visitors to the St. Clair Area, we were able to collect enough funds, through returnables and memorial contributions, to have the hull of our water rescue boat painted. The hull was painted with a special product know as "antifouling bottom paint". This new coating (shown in the picture as the black portion on the bottom of the hull), will reduce or eliminate marine growth from sticking to the surface, thus, forcing the boat out of the water for periodic cleanings. By having this coating applied, the boat will always be in the water and available for an emergency response. Memorial Day Parade - May 28, 2007 The St. Clair Area Fire Department proudly participated in honoring those who have died in service to our country, by presenting the Colors during The City of St. Clair's Memorial Day Parade. An Old Tradition Continues and a New One is Started May 25, 2007 The nearly 60 year old tradition, of an annual fire truck ride for the local kindergarteners, continued into the year 2007 with a twist, Pine River Elementary School kindergarteners rode the fire trucks for the first time in history. For those of you not familiar with this long standing tradition, it is where the St. Clair Area Fire Department picks up kindergarteners at the local schools, lets them climb up onto the hose beds, and gives them a ride all around town. Of course, the kids that choose to ride inside the cab are in full control of the truck's air horn and sirens. As you can probably imagine, the City of St. Clair is a very noisy place for the day.
Additional promotions made in the Department December 10, 2006 As the torch was passed on November 3rd additional promotions have been made in the Department. Former Captain Mike Krul was promoted to First Assistant Chief and former First Lieutenant Bill Padgett has been promoted to Captain. As soon as applications are received and potential candidates interviewed the position of First Lieutenant will be filled. Earlier in the Year Firefighter Kevin Jakubowski left the Department to work full time for the City of Port Huron Fire Department. Kevin was our Secretary Treasurer and we wish him the best of luck. With that we have appointed Firefighter Tony Zolinski as our new Secretary Treasurer. Tony has also volunteered to be an additional webmaster to our Department Web page. An Authority was formed, consisting of representatives of each jurisdiction, to help govern the management of department funds and operations. The only change is in Management of departmental Administrative operations. The Fire Department purchases Grass Truck. [picture and news available soon] AUGUST 15, 2002- The efforts have finally paid off for the Fire Department. St Clair MARINE #1 finally arrives. With the purchase of Marine #2 (a 13' inflatable boat) back in May of this year, the Fire Department worked hard to raise additional funding, to purchase a larger boat. One to meet the need for water rescue on larger water, such as, the St Clair River and support the ability to fight fires on the water. The long awaited, Marine #1 arrived late Thursday afternoon (8-15-02). A 20 foot, center consol, fiberglass boat, powered by a 150hp Mercury outboard, from Triton Boats of Tennessee. St Clair Marine #1 Arrives 8-15-02
JUNE 18 2002 - St Clair fire trains on abandoned houses within the community. Two houses, in the St. Clair Fire area, were used for fire training this past month. You may have seen us in all our fire gear, pulling hose and spraying water, wondering what are they doing? We train as often as possible for the real thing so that when the times comes, we are prepared and can give the community the best service possible. Sometimes we use fake smoke (like at rock concerts) and sometimes real, all to simulate actual conditions. Our training is just like sports practice. Going over our plays and putting them into action. Soon we will post some picture of our latest training. MAY 2002 - Water Rescue Training begins with the first of 2 rescue boats. MARCH 2002 - St Clair Fire is gearing up for the upcoming boating season with the start of their NEW! Water rescue Division. JUNE 12 , 2001 - Multi - agency training exercise. Images HERE!!
