The 1997 Pierce "Quantum" is powered by a 430 horse V8 Detroit diesel 60 series engine. The Pierce Quantum has an on board water capacity of 1,000 gallons and pumps 1,500 gallons per minute. This unit is the first run pumper on all fires. It replaced Engine 31, the 1978 American LeFrance, Pumper. The Pierce Quantum has a hose capacity of: 1000 feet of 1 3/4 inch, 1,100 feet of 3 inch, 1,100 feet of 5 inch. For Firefighter safety, the Pierce Quantum has a totally enclosed cab and seat design, which enables up to 5 Firefighter at a time to gear up in route. The SCBA gear is built into the seats and allows firefighters to pack out and be ready to fight fire upon arrival.
